Ginger: What is "IT"?
The device known as Ginger -- also known as "IT" -- has industry analysts across the world
asking what IT is. Whatever it is, I want it. Apparently, just a few people -- including
Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos and Apple Computer founder Steve Jobs -- are privy to specifics
about the device. What little information is available is based on hype; a short list of
factual information, including reports from those that have seen IT; and several patent

Microsoft's Xbox -- Desktop PC of the Future?
If low pricing trends continue, there will be only one or two PC makers choose from,
thereby eliminating variety and doing away the only reason for the platform's growth in

Judge OKs Excite@Home Shutoff - Despite FCC Plea

A federal judge ruled that service to 3.7 million users of Excite@Home high-speed
Internet access could be blocked. Excite@Home bondholders and creditors, who are
reportedly owed hundreds of millions by the Redwood City, California-based company, had
asked U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Thomas E. Carlson to approve the suspension of services. Full Story
IBM Adds Business Intelligence to DB2 Server

IBM announced it has incorporated online analytical processing and data mining into its
DB2 OLAP Server. Now, IBM said, companies will be able to gain insights
about customer behavior by automatically identifying fluctuations in large volumes of data. Full Story
U.S. Awards $86.9M Cybercrime Training Contract
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is awarding a contract worth US$86.9 million to
train cybercrime fighters. According to news sources, the DoD announced
that the contract will go to Computer Sciences Corporation, which will use the money to
